The paper pieced hexagon centre is surrounded by large hexagons and diamonds, which have been machine pieced. A 600-pack of 1” hexagon papers is required to make the centre panel. This quilt was designed to showcase large print panels from my collection and to play with fussy-cutting motifs and stripes for the hexagon frame borders surrounding each panel.
Inspired by the Nancy Horsfall bed covers made in the early 1830’s, this quilt combines hand appliqué, English paper piecing and machined bordes. Crib size 40 x 55 inches. Paper pieces used for this quilt are: 1” honeycomb and 2” 8-pointed star pieces.
103” square, Machine pieced quilt. Inspired by a medallion quilt of muted printed cottons made around 1850 – as seen in “North Country Quilts and Coverlets from the Beamish Museum” by Rosemary E Allan.
½” hexagon paper pieced centre inspired by a French cushion pattern from 1862 in “Modes Illustree”.
65 ½” sq quilt with naïve appliqué vases centre inspired by “Appliqué Summer Cover” in Ljiljana Baird’s book “QUILTS” and chain of hearts border inspired by Ann Thompson’s 1824 quilt in “The Quilts of the British Isles” by Janet Rae/David Cripps.
